News:
12.05.01 The COLD
WEATHER ISSUE will be coming out shortly. So far we have three interviews
and about six reviews to post. Get ready!
10.11.01 Damn!! Pulped, one of the best sources for Ska
and other 'street music', is going away. I strongly reccomend you check
'em out before someone buys up all their stock. Pulped, you will be missed.
10.05.01 Okay, the September issue is turning into the
September/October issue. I'm working on the next one, I promise.
09.25.01 A message from Cris from the Cover-Ups:
Ready to Rock Steady?!! Please help us welcome
in the Fall Season with the Sweet Rocksteady Rhythms of '60's Jamaican
songstress, Phyllis Dillon! Sunday, September 30th, the Original Queen
of Rocksteady will be making a rare appearance at the famous Whisky A
Go Go accompanied by local favorites, Kingston 10. Also on the bill will
be Irie Beats, The Debonaires and The Vessels. KXLU's Junior Francis will
be our host for the evening. You don't want to miss this show! It is hot,
hot, hot! Tickets are $15.00 and are on sale now at the Whisky box office,
Ticketmaster outlets or call 213-480-3232 to charge by phone (Ticketmaster
will have service charges). Show starts at 8:00pm. All Ages. The Whisky
A Go Go is located at 8901 Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood. This show is
brought to you by Steady Beat Productions and Conshus Vibz.
09.20.01 10,000 hits! Woo hoo! Wonder how many of them
were me updating the site.
09.09.01 The Message Board is up! Post away!
09.08.01 I've added a new Lo-Fi station on Live365. The
show features all original ska and rocksteady hits from the sixties, and
fear not, I've made it just as good as or better than the shows broadcast
at higher bitrates. Just play this location in Winamp, Sonique, or MusicMatch:
64.152.82.194:24038
09.04.01 Hope you like the tentative redesign. I know the rounded-edges
approach is overused in web design, but it looks good. The Search and
Message board features don't exist yet, and will come to life in future
versions of Rude Roots.
More importantly, September
is Women of Ska Month at Rude Roots! So far, two of the women of ska have
granted Rude Roots interviews this month, and the number is only growing.
Right now, check out these two interviews:
Cris from the Cover-Ups (RIP) grants Rude Roots her first interview ever,
and gives us some insight on being a woman in ska and her upcoming projects.
Lorraine from the Kingpins talks
about being a multilingual ska artist as well as the new frontwoman.
Plus, one interview with a guy:
Nate from 2 1/2 White Guys is our
token testosterone toter this month. We rap with him about some pretour
thoughts and what it's like playing Jamaican music in god's country.
